Sealed Air Corp. (NYSE:SEE) dropped
2.85% to $22.88. The company said Wednesday its third-quarter net income rose
26% to $76.5 million, or 43 cents a share, from $60.6 million, or 34 cents a
share, in the year-ago period.
Wall
Street analysts expected the company to earn 43 cents a share, on revenue of
$1.13 billion, according to a survey by FactSet Research.
The
company said it expects 2010 adjusted earnings of $1.56 a share to $1.62 a
share, compared to its earlier forecast of $1.50 a share to $1.70 a share.
The
stock went up more than 4% year-to-date.
The Southern Company (NYSE:SO) slid
0.63% to $38.04. The company said Wednesday its third-quarter earnings rose to
$817.2 million, or 98 cents a share, from $790 million, or 99 cents a share, in
the year-ago period. Revenue rose to $5.3 billion from $4.68 billion.
Wall
Street analysts expected Southern Co. to earn 97 cents a share on revenue of
$5.36 billion, according to a survey by FactSet Research.
Over
the past 52-week, the stock traded within the range of $30.85-$38.62.
Jones Apparel Group, Inc. (NYSE:JNY) plunged
22.69% to $15.09. The company said Wednesday that its third-quarter profit fell
to $29.1 million, or 34 cents a share, from $30.4 million, or 36 cents, year
earlier.
Excluding
items, the company said it would have earned 54 cents a share. On that basis,
that missed the 63-cent average estimate of analysts polled by FactSet.
The stock opened at $15.95 and is trading within the range of $14.83-$19.85.
