Thermo
Fisher Scientific Inc. (NYSE:TMO) added 2.50% to $51.58. The
company posted a 21% increase in third-quarter net profit to $268.5 million, or
66 cents a share, from $221.2 million, or 53 cents a share, earned in the
year-earlier period.
Analysts, on average, expected the company to earn 83
cents a share, according to FactSet Research.
Over the past 52-week, the stock traded within the range
of $41.74-$57.40. At current market price, the market capitalization of the
company stands at $21.02 billion.
Whirlpool Corporation (NYSE:WHR) declined
4.91% to $80.37. The company reported third-quarter net income fell 9.2% on
0.5% higher sales. Earnings fell to $79 million or $1.02 a share, from $87
million, or $1.15, in the year-earlier quarter.
A survey of analysts by FactSet Research produced consensus estimates of $1.71 of profit on $4.5 billion of revenue. For all of 2010, Whirlpool estimated that it would earn $7.80 to $8.30 a share, or an adjusted $9.56 to $10.06. FactSet's survey is looking for $8.82 a share.
The
stock went down more than 1% year-to-date.
International Paper Company (NYSE:IP) went
up 4.15% to $24.86. The company reported earning $397 million, or 91 cents a
share, up from $371 million, or 87 cents, in the year-ago third quarter.
Analysts
polled by FactSet Research had been looking for earnings of 79 cents a share,
on average, with sales pegged at $6.55 billion.
The 52-week range of the stock is $19.33-$29.25.
