Christopher Kennedy Lawford
joins addiction psychiatrist Christina Delos Reyes, M.D. on this inaugural
broadcast of “Recovery Matters,” a show launched by Dr. Jamie Marich of
Youngstown, OH to promote open, interactive dialogue on issues of addiction and
recovery. During this first episode, Lawford, Delos Reyes and Marich will
discuss what recovery actually means. Recovery is a word that often gets “thrown
around” in our collective language, but in order to launch an entire series on
issues of addiction recovery, we must first stop to explore what it really
means, according to host Marich.
Christopher Kennedy Lawford is a New
York Times Best-Selling Author, and outspoken advocate raising awareness on the
public health issues of addiction and Hepatitis C. His memoir, Symptoms of
Withdrawal (2005), chronicles his own, near fatal battle with drug addiction and
recovery. The son of actor Peter Lawford and Patricia Kennedy (sister to John
and Robert Kennedy), Lawford’s memoir candidly explores the joys and struggles
of his own life, and countless people have been inspired by his experience,
strength, and hope. Lawford, whose face you might recognize from his public
service announcements on A&E, has now been in recovery for over 24 years. In
2009, his book Moments of Clarity, a collection of spiritual epiphanies
experienced by those in recovery, also reached the New York Times Best Seller

Christina Delos Reyes,
M.D. is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Case Western Reserve
University School of Medicine. She is Board-Certified in Adult Psychiatry and
Addiction Psychiatry and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Addiction
Medicine (ABAM). She is the Director of the Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship at
University Hospitals of Cleveland and also teaches medical students and
residents. Since 2000, she has served as the Medical Consultant to the Ohio SAMI
CCOE (Substance Abuse and Mental Illness Coordinating Center of Excellence), a
statewide training and technical assistance organization dedicated to
evidence-based practices. In 2009, following a decade of work in community
mental health, she was appointed as the Chief Clinical Officer of the Alcohol,
Drug Addiction, and Mental Health Services Board of Cuyahoga County.
