USA Today Coaches Poll College Football Top 25: USC Defeats Ohio State, Remains #1

USC remains at the top spot in the USA Today Coaches Poll Top 25 college football rankings after blowing out Ohio State in the most anticipated game of the season.

The Trojans defeated the then-No. 5 Buckeyes, 35-3, on Saturday night. In the game billed the “Collision at the Coliseum,” Mark Sanchez threw for 172 yards and four touchdowns.

The Buckeyes fell to No. 14 despite playing without their star, Heisman Trophy candidate Chris “Beanie” Wells, who missed the last two games due to a toe injury. It is unsure if Wells will play in OSU’s upcoming game against Troy on Saturday.

Georgia dropped one spot after barely defeating unranked South Carolina, 14-7. The Bulldogs will now face #24 Arizona State in a rare regular season battle between SEC and Pac-10 schools. The Sun Devils dropped 11 spots after losing in overtime to UNLV, 23-20.

Florida State and Illinois moved into the top 25 as the Illini moved up after a week out of the poll. They replaced California, who lost to Maryland 35-27, and Fresno State, who lost to then-No. 10 Wisconsin 13-10 at home.
