Pakistan Orders Military to Open Fire on U.S. Troops in Border Raids

Pakistan has ordered their military to open fire on U.S. troops if they cross from the Afghan border to attack militants.

The move is in response to a Sept. 3 ground attack in which American troops entered Pakistani territory to engage pro-Taliban militants hiding in the tribal region of South Waziristan, an area heavily populated by terrorists.

Following that ground attack Pakistani Maj. Gen. Athar Abbas told the AP, “The orders are clear, in case it happens again in this form, that there is a very significant detection, which is very definite, no ambiguity, across the border, on ground or in the air: open fire.”

The U.S. has expressed frustration with Pakistan’s inability to control their border with Afghanistan, noting many militants move relatively freely between the mountainous region.
