"Obama Waffles" Depicts Racist Caricature of Barack Obama
The Value Voter Summit unleashed a box of Obama Waffles last week that depicts a racist caricature of Barack Obama.
W. Mark Whitlock and Bob DeMoss, the entrepreneurs behind Obama Waffles, described the product as "political satire" while attending the annual Value Voter Summit, which is held in Washington by the right-wing Family Research Council.
Republican Party stalwarts Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney were among speakers at the forum, which officials said drew 2,100 activists from 44 states.
The box of Obama Waffles features a cartoon image of a bug-eyed, toothy, dark-lipped Barack Obama oggling a plate of waffles. A spread of butter on the waffles is stamped "2008".
On the top flap, the Obama caricature wears a turban, next to an arrow printed with the text: "Point box toward Mecca for tastier waffles." The cartoon conjures an extreme satire the box of Aunt Jemima's Pancake Mix, which once featured stereotyped image of a round-faced black woman in a turban as its trademark.
The back of the box depicts Barack in stereotypical Mexican garb. The recipe includes a tip: "While waiting for these zesty treats to invade your home, why not learn a foreign language?" In addition, the box contained a recipe on the back that was written as a rap entitled "Barry's Bling Bling Waffle Ring":
Yo, B-rock here droppin' waffle knowledge
Spellin' it out, 'cause a graduated college
Some say I waffle so fast,
Barry's causin' whiplash
Just doin' my part,
made wafflin' a fine art
For a waffle wit style,

The box of Obama Waffles, which has the text "Feeds 4 or more illegal aliens," sold for $10 a piece at the forum and is also available on ObamaWaffles.com. In addition to the box of waffle mix, the ObamaWaffles.com also sells T-shirts and offers blog posts of Obama quotes.
Eventually organizers asked them to be withdrawn from sale after stating that some people would find the box offensive.
The Obama/Biden Campaign declined comment on the issue.
