Zimbabwe’s New PM Morgan Tsvangirai Assures President Robert Mugabe He has Nothing to Worry About

Morgan Tsvangirai, head of Zimbabwe’s Movement for Democratic Change and recently appointed Prime Minister has assured President Robert Mugabe that he has nothing to worry about concerning his “paranoid obsession” that there was a plot to overthrow him.

Speaking to the BBC in his first interview as prime minister Tsvangirai stated Zimbabwe was now facing a rebuilding process but wanted to be sure Mugabe understood “there's no conspiracies against him as an individual.”

Monday’s power-sharing deal signed by Tsvangirai and Mugabe ended several months of talks following the country’s presidential election. While the details of the deal have not been finalized it is believed the two men will share a 50/50 division of power that will give Mugabe the position of head of state and head of cabinet while Tsvangirai heads a council of ministers and manages day-to-day affairs.

As part of the day-to-day affairs Tsvangirai has said his first goal is to provide people with food and instill a sense of safety.
