The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday the recall of 682,000 Halloween lanterns sold at dollar stores nationwide. The lanterns are shaped like a pumpkin, ghost or skull and measure about 6.5 inches tall. They were sold at Dollar Tree, Dollar Bill$, Occasions, Deal$ and Dollar Tree Deal$ stores from August to October.
The CPSC warns the lantern can overheat, potentially causing a fire or burns."Consumers should take the recalled lanterns away from children immediately, remove and properly discard the batteries and return the lanterns to the store where purchased for a full refund," the agency said.
Dollar Tree received one report of the lantern overheating. No injuries have been reported.
The affected lanterns have a label with the model number 954439-13096-003-1005.
