Orlando Magic Stifle John Wall's Debut

No. 1 Draft Pick Loses First Game

On Thursday night, the Orlando Magic easily defeated the Washington Wizards 112-83, effectively stifling the NBA debut of John Wall, the No. 1 draft pick. Some consider this overwhelming defeat the second upset of the regular NBA season, the other upset being the Miami Heat's lackluster performance during their debut game against the Boston Celtics.

Dwight Howard led the Magic with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Jameer Neslon also played a crucial role in the Orlando victory, recording 16 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Vince Carter contribute 18 points. Meanwhile, Wall was held to 14 points on 6-for-19 shooting. He also contributed 9 assists and 3 steals. Cartier Martin led the Magic in scoring with 17.

"It was tough," said Wall after the game. "It's really telling me what I need to work on, but I already know. But as a team aspect, we have a lot we need to work on."

Orlando, who looked very strong on Thursday, play the Miami Heat on Friday night. Howard is hopeful that they can put up a good challenge; "We can make a statement," said Howard.
