Tama County Iowa to Lose $7,000 in Tax Revenue
Federal protection hurts county coffers
257 acres in Tama County, Iowa may no longer be required to pay property taxes. The Sac and Fox tribe was granted permission to put the land into a federal trust, exempting them from local property taxes.
Tama County originally appealed the decision, but was overturned by the Interior Board of Indian Appeals. The land represents $7,000 dollars in tax revenue anually for the county.
