The United States embassy in Yemen was struck by a car bomb and rocket fire on Wednesday, leaving at least 16 dead and several more injured.
According to reports the bomb detonated near the main security gate as staff workers were arriving for around 8:30 a.m. The bombing was fired by an exchange of heavy gunfire between militants and embassy security guards.
Six security officers and four civilians were killed in the attack as were six militants.
The Islamic Jihad in Yemen has claimed responsibility for the attack on the U.S. embassy that is located in the capital city of Sanaa.
