Video: Mavericks' Josh Howard Disrespects National Anthem

Dallas Mavericks forward Josh Howard disrespected the National Anthem in a video that surfaced nationally on Wednesday.

The video was taken in July during a celebrity flag football game held by Allen Iverson. The event also featured Iverson's Nuggets teammate Carmelo Anthony and rapper Nelly. 

At the 1:43 mark of the video, which was taken by local Baltimore rapper Los, Howard makes a cameo saying: " 'The Star-Spangled Banner' is going on. I don't celebrate this [expletive]. I'm black." Howard also mumbles a hard-to-hear reference to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said that the franchise has dealt with Howard over the comment and will deal with situations in the future.

"That said, we will be going through some advanced communication skill sessions together this training camp," Cuban said Tuesday. "I have explained to him that cellphone cameras are not your friend and that what you think you said on camera is never what people will hear when it shows up on YouTube or TV."

Also in July, Howard was arrested and charged with speeding (94 mph in a 55 mph zone), careless and reckless driving, and speed competition in North Carolina. He was released from jail on a written promise to appear in court Sept. 23.

This summer, Howard admitted that he and several players in the NBA frequently use marijuana. He also threw a birthday party for himself at a nightclub the night after the Mavericks lost Game 4 of their playoff series against New Orleans despite head coach Avery Johnson's request that players keep extracurricular activities to a minimum during the playoffs.

This is not the first time Howard has been cast in an un-American light. He rejected an offer to join the U.S. Olympic team when he said the initial training camp in 2006 conflicted with his summer camps.
