Cottrell and Moore discuss a decade of Living Proof Live

Ministry team tells Inside LifeWay podcast audience God authored partnership

It has been nearly 10 years since Travis Cottrell first led worship during a Living Proof Live event with women’s Bible teacher Beth Moore. Since that first time, Cottrell and Moore have appeared before thousands of women during Living Proof Live events throughout the country.

During a recent
Inside LifeWay podcast, Cottrell and Moore agreed that the end is nowhere in sight.

Cottrell stopped by the Inside LifeWay studio to talk about the path his music career has taken, his experiences with
Living Proof Live and what it is like to work with Moore. Inside LifeWay is the official news podcast of LifeWay Christian Resources.

"I always had kind of a sanguine personality, so music and people kind of went hand-in-hand," Cottrell said, explaining how he came to a career in music performance. "I’m a little bit of a traditional boy posing as a contemporary worship leader."

In fact, it was Cottrell’s unexpected time after college graduation as an interim worship leader at his Nashville church that solidified his "call to do more than just sing."

It was in this capacity as a church worship leader that Cottrell first met Moore a few years before he began leading worship for
Living Proof Live. Moore, in the early days of her ministry, had been speaking at the church where Cottrell led worship, and on Sunday morning, she walked into the choir room where he was preparing the choir for the service.

"If you think about it, only God could have done that," Moore said after joining the Inside LifeWay interview via phone. "There’s no rhyme or reason to it."

There may not have been an obvious reason for the meeting, but Cottrell and Moore agree that the pairing works better than either could have imagined.

Moore said there are multiple reasons why Cottrell fit so well into her idea of a worship leader for the Living Proof Live events, but, "What made us [the Moores and Cottrells] forever friends ... is the fact that he was also just so much fun, so hilarious, and godly."

"[Cottrell and his wife] are people that just totally dig Jesus Christ and don’t think that humor is unholy," Moore said. "We think that to get a bunch of people together and to worship together and get in God’s Word together, is not only important, not only vital, but it is the biggest blast we ever have in our whole lives."

Later this fall, Moore and Cottrell will take part in the 100th Living Proof Live event during a tour of the Northeast. It is also during this tour that Living Proof Live will celebrate having taken place in all 50 states.

"It’s just a God work," Cottrell said. "He’s got it under control. We’re just here to facilitate the Holy Spirit and doing a work of power through His Word. I’m just grateful to be in the room while He works."
