South Dakota Starts Program to Repay Student Loans

Public defenders loyalty rewarded by state funds

Public defenders in in South Dakota have a new reason to stick around.  As long as they work for at least three years, public defenders and prosecutors will receive help from the state to repay student loans.

State officials said that many attorneys wish to open private practices as soon as possible to begin to pay back the debt they incurred in school.  Opening a private practice is often seen as a faster way to make more money.  The state currently has $100,000 available for assistance.
