Minnesota Vikings Waive Randy Moss

Wide Receiver Randy Moss Waived by Vikings

NFL wide receiver Randy Moss was abruptly waived by the Minnesota Vikings on Monday just weeks after the 7-time Pro Bowler was traded by the New England Patriots in exchange for a draft pick. Vikings coach Brad Childress told his team on Monday afternoon that Moss "is no longer with us."

According to Vikings linebacker Ben Leber, Childress did not really explain to the team why Moss was being released. "No reason, really, [he] just wanted to give everybody a heads-up and say this is what's going on, and that's it," said Leber about Childress. "He didn't really dive into any details, and just said that's what we're going to go with."

Moss's agent Joel Segal said in an e-mail to the Star Tribune, "Randy is very sad to find out about being waived by the Vikings this morning. He has and always will remain fond of the fans in Minnesota. We will let the process of the waiver wire take its course and we will move on from there."

Moss' release from the Vikings comes just a day after he made some controversial remarks during a press conference that followed a 28-18 loss to the Patriots, his former team. According to a report from FoxSports.com, "Moss praised the Patriots repeatedly [during the press conference] while taking a swipe at Vikings coaches and players for allegedly not heeding his pregame advice on how to best his former team... Moss also specifically knocked head coach Brad Childress for unsuccessfully attempting to score a fourth-down touchdown from the Patriots 1-yard line rather than kicking a field goal at the end of the first half."

Moss refused to answer questions from the media during the controversial press conference. Indeed, Moss announced during the press conference that he will not answer questions from the media for the rest of the season. "I'm not going to answer any more questions for the rest of this year," said Moss. "If it's going to be an interview, I'm going to conduct [it]. ... I'll ask myself the questions, then give y'all the answers. So from here on out, I'm not answering any more questions for the rest of this season."

Moss also created some controversy during his press conference by saying, "No disrespect to the Minnesota Vikings and their organization... but I miss (the Patriots)."

Well, Moss may end up returning to the team that he apparently misses so much. According to multiple reports, a number of teams are interested in acquiring Moss, including the Dallas Cowboys, the Washington Redskins, the Miami Dolphins, the New York Jets, and even the Patriots.

Moss is available on a waiver until Tuesday. Before then, a team can sign Moss for the final year of a contract that pays him $6.4 million per year. If no team acquires Moss by that time, then the Vikings owe the NFL star a remainder of $3.888 million and Moss becomes an unrestricted free agent.
