Jason Pominville returns to Ice after suffering Concussion
After missing 9 games, Buffalo Sabres Forward, Jason Pominville, has been cleared to play by physicians. Pominville had previously been out due to a concussion suffered October 11th by Chicago Blackhawks defensemen, Niklas Hjalmarsson. Hjalmarsson’s hard hit sent Pominville into the boards deriving a two game suspension from the league.
Arguably the Sabres most enduring and productive player, the concussion ended the 27 year old's streak of 336 consecutive games played (second all time behind Craig Ramsay in Sabres franchise history).
The Sabres (3-7-2) are off to their worst start since 2002 when they began (3-11-4). The Sabres join the New Jersey Devils at the bottom of the Eastern Conference as the two NHL teams who still have yet to win a game on home ice.
Pominville returns tomorrow to a lineup in much need of leadership and consistency. The Sabres showed slight signs of productivity on their last road trip, but ultimately went 1-2-1 in four games. Thomas Vanek has grown out of his benign presence on offense, but the addition of Pom in the Sabres special teams unit will ultimately have the most impact for the Sabres. Pominville will set up a line alongside Jochen Hecht and Derek Roy, while Tim Connolly joins Thomas Vanek and Patrick Kaleta as the Sabres other top line going into Wednesday’s matchup against the Bruins.
