Demi Lovato Enters Treatment Center

Demi Lovato Quits Tour to Get Treated

Disney Channel star Demi Lovato has quit an international concert tour with the Jonas Brothers and entered a treatment facility, according to multiple reports. According to Lovato's representative, the 18-year-old actress and singer has checked into a treatment center to deal with physical and emotional issues. According to a report from People.com, Lovato checked into a medical center on Monday to seek professional help for personal issues.

"Demi Lovato left her tour early this weekend in order to seek medical treatment for emotional and physical issues she has dealt with for some time," Lovato's representative told TMZ.com.

The rep also said, "Demi has decided to take personal responsibility for her actions and seek help.  She is doing just that. Demi and her family ask that the media please respect their privacy during this difficult time. [Demi] regrets not being able to finish her tour, but is looking forward to getting back to work in the near future."

The representative did not specify the nature of Lovato's problems, but a source told People magazine, that Lovato "was bullied in school. She fought through eating disorders and has struggled with cutting. … Demi is taking control by getting help."

Recent reports are revealing that Lovato may be seeking treatment in order to deal with a past that includes bullying and body image problems.

"She definitely had body-image issues. She was always conscious of her weight," said one source.

"Like many other teenage girls, she struggled a lot to fit in and find acceptance," a family friend told People. "She's very sensitive, very intuitive and that is part of what makes her a wonderful performer – very talented. It is double-edged sword. I think she felt that the hard time she had [in school], problems with kids who were incredibly vicious made her stronger. But none of us feels strong every day."

Lovato previously said to People, "Feeling comfortable in your clothes is something I deal with to this day. I wish I had somebody I had to look up to when I was younger to stand up and say, 'Hey, I have fat days.' So I want to be able to start a foundation or something that's for girls feeling confident, to empower them."

And in 2008, while on The Ellen Degeneres Show, she explained that she was bullied so much in 7th grade that she switched to home schooling.

The catalyst for Lovato's seeking help was a physical altercation that Lovato became engaged in recently with a dancer on her tour. According to TMZ.com, Lovato is not seeking treatment for drug use.
