Emotions were running high in Saturday’s game between Georgia and Florida, but Georgia’s defensive coordinator Todd Grantham took it to another level.
A screen shot and video from a Florida sports cable network showed Grantham grabbing his neck with his right hand before Chaz Henry’s game-winning kick. In a CBS interview after the game, Henry said: “Some of their coaches on the sideline were over there giving me a little grief saying I was going to choke.”
Georgia coach Mark Richt confirmed Grantham gave the choking gesture to Henry in his weekly news conference today.
“I’m aware of it, and I would just say that emotions run high,” Richt said. “People do things they probably wish they didn’t do. I think that was what was being communicated. I don’t think he’s necessarily proud of it. We’re just going to learn from it and move on.”
Grantham, who is known to be very expressive, grabbed his throat four times while the Florida kicker lined up for a 37-yard field goal attempt in overtime. The kick was successful, giving Florida the 34-31 win over Georgia. He has yet to comment on the matter.#
