Prison Riot in Mexico Leaves 19 Dead, at least a Dozen Injured

For the second time in less than a week prison riots at La Mesa in Tijuana, Mexico have broken out, leaving at least 19 dead and a dozen more injured.

The most recent prison riot, taking place on Wednesday, was believed to have been a result of the aftermath associated with a prison riot on Sunday that led to four deaths. Family members of some inmates had said the prison had not provided food or water since the initial riot.

Wednesday’s riot took place during visiting hours but no visitors were involved in the chaos.

Prison officials are now moving 200 inmates considered highly dangerous to other facilities.
