The power-sharing agreement signed by Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe and Prime Minister-designate Morgan Tsvangirai has already hit a snag as the two leaders appear deadlocked over the issue of the division of cabinet posts.
While Mugabe, leader of the ZANU-PF party, and Tsvangirai, leader of the Movement for Democratic Change party, signed an agreement on Tuesday that stipulated the new cabinet would be split with 16 posts going to the MDC and a breakaway faction led by Arthur Mutambara while 15 posts would be taken by the ZANU-PF.
Mugabe has accepted the division of the 31 cabinet posts but he appears determined to dictate which posts will go to ZANU-PF, maintaining his party should hold the powerful posts such as finance, defense and information.
That division is unacceptable to the MDC and both sides remain in talks to find common ground.
