Charlie Sheen has moved back to the top of list of troubled Hollywood celebs. Media reports had the popular sitcom star being hospitalized in New York City after he was found naked in his Plaza Hotel room. Police sources attribute the trip to the hospital to “intoxication” while Sheen’s rep termed it the more politically correct “allergic reaction to medication.”
No charges have been filed and Sheen, 45, was released the same day. But the story became more sordid as news outlets reported that police were called by a stripper who was holed up in the bathroom of Sheen’s trashed luxury hotel room. To make matters worse, Sheen’s ex-wife, Denise Richards, and their two young daughters were in the room next door.
Once he was released from the hospital, Sheen attempted to do some damage control, sending a text message to a RadarOnline.com editor that said, "Oh my man, I'm fine," adding, "The story is totally overblown and overplayed as far as the reality of the scenario."
In the days following the incident, Richards was mum during numerous interviews to promote her latest acting gig. In the aftermath, Sheen filed for divorce from his current wife, Brooke Mueller, with whom he has twin sons. He was arrested on Christmas 2009 for allegedly assaulting her and cites that date as the beginning of their separation in the divorce papers he filed in California.
While late night talk show hosts have had a lot of fun with Sheen’s latest troubles, treatment experts are more concerned that the star, with a history of addiction, may be in denial. Only time will tell if Sheen’s escapade at The Plaza was merely a wild night or signs of larger troubles, including a possible relapse.
