First Openly Transsexual NCAA Basketball Player

College Basketball History Made by Transsexual

Kye Allums, a 20-year-old guard for the George Washington University Colonials women's basketball team, has made sports history by becoming the first ever openly trannsexual basketball player to play Division 1 NCAA basketball. Allums was born a female but has decided to identify herself as a male. He was listed as Kay-Kay on the roster last year and has asked to be referred to by male pronouns this year.

Fortunately for Allums and other transgenders, NCAA rules clearly state, "Transgender young people have the same right to participate and benefit from the positive aspects of athletics as other students do." Allums, who has openly stated her desire to further her transition into becoming a man, plans to forgo any kind of hormone therapy until she finishes her college playing career, because NCAA prohibits the use of performance-enhancing substances, including testosterone and other hormones.
