Mark Wahlberg Teams Up With Boys & Girls Clubs of America

The actor teamed up with the organization to give away Xbox 360s to thousands of Clubs.

Actor Mark Wahlberg is getting out and giving back. In a partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Marky Mark is delivering a funky bunch of Kinect gaming hardware and X-box 360 bundles to deserving underprivileged children across the country.

The actor can still remember the days when he was one of those kids, and decided to partner with the organization that aims to give disadvantaged children opportunities they otherwise wouldn’t have access to. “I've experienced firsthand the positive impact organizations like Boys & Girls Clubs have on the lives of young people," he explained. "When I heard Xbox 360 wanted to give Kinect to Clubs across the country, I had to jump in and help."

The $200+ X-box is certainly one of those opportunities, and Wahlberg has put smiles on lots of little faces.  The kit includes an Xbox console, a Kinect camera, and two Kinect games, allowing kids to play with their consoles fresh out of the box. The sets are top of the line, you don’t need controllers, instead kids can stand in front of the Kinect camera and it will read their physical movements into the game.

This kind of play encourages physical activity and interactivity, as well as social gaming. The Boys and Girls Clubs organization issued their thanks to both Wahlberg and the Xbox campaign for helping with the project, and making hundreds of dreams come true. Cyndi Court, the executive vice president of Boys & Girls Clubs of America said, “The first time we saw Kinect, we knew it would have a special ability to bring kids, their families and mentors together. This is gaming and entertainment that encourages teamwork, fair play and creativity. We're so excited to provide Kinect for Xbox 360 to our local Clubs, and are thankful to Mark Wahlberg and Xbox for supporting our mission to keep kids healthy and active."

The new Xbox systems don’t hit stores until midnight, so these are some lucky kids indeed.
