Parts Fall Off Plane During Qantas Flight

Qantas airlines flight QF32 was forced to land after parts of the plane’s engine cover fell off 6 minutes after takeoff. The Airbus 380 was carrying 440 passengers and 26 crew members when the cover ripped off and fell to the ground on Indonesia’s Batam Island. The plane, which was headed to Sydney, Australia, returned to Changi Airport in Singapore.

Qantas, the national airline of Australia, grounded the rest of their Airbus 380 fleet while the incident is under investigation. “We are being very cautious until we know exactly what caused this,” Qantas CEO Alan Joyce told reporters.

"I am not sure what actually happened with the debris and why parts of the engine left the aircraft and fell into the ground," Joyce said.

There were no injuries. All passengers and crew safely disembarked the plane.
