HolidayLEDS.com to Offer 6% Discount to Michigan Residents
HolidayLEDs.com, a Michigan based online retailer specializing in LED Christmas lights, is now offering a discount to Michigan residents. The company decided to offer the discount to put its Michigan resident customers on equal footing with its out of state customers. All purchases by customers with a Michigan shipping address will receive a 6% discount to compensate them for the 6% sales tax imposed by the State of Michigan. Out of state HolidayLEDs.com customers do not have to pay Michigan sales tax.
"We are a Michigan company and we try to support Michigan business and hope that Michigan residents and businesses will also support us," said Philip C. Curtis, President of HolidayLEDs.com. The State of Michigan imposes a 6% income tax on all sales in the State of Michigan, which puts Michigan residents who purchase online from a Michigan based company on unequal footing with out-of-state customers. "Because of the 6% sales tax, in some cases, it is less expensive for Michigan residents to purchase LED Christmas lights from our out-of-state competitors," Curtis explained. "We decided to offer a 6% discount to our Michigan customers so that sales tax so we would not be at a competitive disadvantage with prospective Michigan customers," Curtis concluded.
