The Atlanta Hawks made just enough plays late to nip the Pistons 94-85 on Wednesday night at Philips Arena. The win gives Atlanta a 5-0 start, and they remain the only unbeaten team in the Eastern Conference.
The win was no cakewalk. In similar fashion to their first four games, the unbeaten Hawks played sloppy early, but managed to finish strong. The Hawks didn't match Detroit's energy for most of the game, but finally responded after they were down 81-76 with six minutes to go. They celebrate the win, but hope to improve as the season goes on.
"We have not yet played our best basketball, and we're still winning," Hawks guard Joe Johnson said. "So we'll take it however we can get it."
Hawks forward Josh Smith scored a team-high 22 points and also had 11 rebounds. Center Al Horford scored eight of his 18 points in the fourth quarter, and Pachulia scored 12 points in 19 minutes off the bench.
Atlanta faces off against Minnesota on Friday night. The Timberwolves (1-4) are coming off their worst loss in franchise history, losing to Orlando 128-86 last night.
