James Harrison Fined Again for Illegal Hit

Just weeks after receiving a hefty $75,000 fine from the NFL for having hit a player so hard that he caused a concussion, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison has been fined again for an illegal hit. This time, Harrison was issued a $20,000 fine for performing a late hit on New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.

Last time he was fined, Harrison announced that he was seriously considering retirement, because he did not see how he could continue to play if he was going to get fined for hits that he did not consider too hard or illegal. And he still seems unclear on what the NFL expects from tacklers.

''They tell you to keep your head up, see what you hit, but I guess that's not the case with a defenseless player,'' said Harrison. ''I don't know how you tackle someone and don't use any part of your head, especially if you're trying to see what you're hitting. Your facemask is going to touch them.''

Harrison, whose total fines now amount to $100,000, also said, ''The amount of money is becoming an issue. The fines that they issued to me, two of them weren't even called penalties. I don't even know what to say anymore.''
