James Franco Movie Causes People to Faint, Have Seizures

New Franco Film, 127 Hours, Makes Viewers Sick

Even though James Franco's new movie 127 Hours is receiving a number of positive reviews, the movie is also making a lot of people feel sick, literally. According to a report from The London Sun, when the movie was shown at the London Film Festival last week, paramedics had to be called in to deal with various cases of nausea, fainting, and even seizures.

The movies tells the amazing story of Aron Ralston, an actual rock climber who was pinned underneath a boulder for five days in 2003. In order to survive, Ralston amputated his own arm with a dull multi-tool knife. He also reportedly drank his own urine when he ran out of water. Some of these graphic events are reportedly shown in the film - and in a very graphic manner.

One movie reviewer, Chris Tookey, described the graphic amputation scene as "the most harrowing bone-breaking and amputation scene in the history of cinema.”

Grant Rollings, another critic, said, "I've sat through all kinds of gory movies in the past - mainly for work rather than pleasure. But as Aron tried in vain to draw blood with his blunt tool, I did wince and put my hand up to my eye. That, though, was not as bad as hearing the loud snap as Ralston broke his bone, or seeing him slowly slice it off."

One movie-goer said, "Loads of people were freaking out. I heard someone being sick behind me. It affected most of the audience. People were walking out like zombies, white as sheets.

Franco, who actually admitted that some viewers fainted during screen-testing, said, "It's not a horror film where the point is to gross people out. The real amputation took over 40 minutes. Our scene is a few minutes."

127 Hours is directed by British director Danny Boyle, who is most well-known for having directed such famous films as Trainspotting, The Beach, 28 Days Later, and Slumdog Millionaire. Boyle said about the graphic amputation, "We'd all do it and if you didn't have a knife you'd chew it off. Animals do it all the time."

127 Hours
goes on general release in the United States on Friday, November 5th.
