The U.S. Putting Tour, a year-round putting tour for amateur golfers announced today that it will hold qualifying events for the 2011 USPT National Championship in San Diego in December.
Jim Hartley, the founder and president of the tour indicated that there will be two USPT putting tournaments in the San Diego area in December.
“We’re putting the final details together with two courses,”
said Hartley. “We want to give San Diego
golfers as many chances as possible to qualify for next year’s USPT National
Championship.”
The 2011 tour championship is scheduled for The Crossings at Carlsbad in San Diego Country, September 24-30. The championship and the qualifying putting tournaments are open to men and women, who will compete together. Anyone 13 years of age and older is eligible to compete in the national putting championship and all other USPT events.
Amateur golfers compete in the putting competition without handicaps or an index. Different tournament formats are used in qualifying events and over the course of the seven-day national championship.
The putting tour gives all amateur golfers a chance to win a national amateur golf championship. The winner will receive the USPT National Championship trophy and will have his or her name inscribed on the USPT’s perpetual trophy. Prizes will be awarded in accordance with USGA rules on amateur status.
