Two Human Rights Watch activists who accused Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez of holding back democracy in the South American country have been expelled.
Both Jose Miguel Vivanco, Americas director of the HRW and his deputy, Daniel Wilkinson, were said to have committed “serious violations” by trying to undermine the government and they “illegally interfered in the country's internal affairs.”
Vivanco had said Chavez was weakening the democratic institutions within Venezuela and lessening the human rights guarantees. That message earned him the expulsion, a response Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro said was “a clear message to whoever intends to come here and plot from within.”
