Any charity can use volunteers to hold official qualifying events for the 2011 U.S. Putting Tour National Championship, scheduled for September. The USPT will provide charities with the format and instructions for holding a qualifying event, which they can hold at any golf course in the country, either in conjunction with a charity golf tournament or as its own free-standing putting tournament.
A charity that holds a USPT qualifying putting event can set the entry fee. The only obligation when holding a USPT qualifying event is for the charity to pay the winner’s $250 entry fee into the finals of the USPT National Championship.
“This is a great and innovative way for non-profit causes to raise additional funds,” said USPT president, Jim Hartley. “They can put their army of volunteers to work raising money in a fun way that will have golfers lining up to play.”
Individuals not affiliated with a non-profit also can turn USPT qualifying tournaments into a golf business opportunity. Similar to non-profits, an individual entrepreneur can schedule a USPT putting tournament at a local golf course or private club and send a winner to the USPT National Championship by submitting the $250 entry fee on the winner’s behalf.
“The USPT is one of the more original golf income ideas to come along in several years,” said Hartley. “And it’s totally flexible; a person can hold just one event or several every week if they have the time to devote to the business.”
