"Eragon" Author Christopher Paolini Releases "Brisingr" at Midnight Friday

"Brisingr," the latest book from "Eragon" author Christopher Paolini, will be released at midnight on Friday in the United States and U.K.

"Brisingr" is the third edition of Paolini's fantasy series about a boy named Eragon and his brilliant blue dragon, Saphira, who live in the kingdom of Alagaesia and must save the world from an evil king. Eragon is one of the few remaining Dragon Riders, who were almost wiped out by King Galbatorix on his way to the crown.

"Brisingr," which means "fire" in the fictional ancient language of Alagaesia, was originally intended to be the final book in the Inheritance Cycle series, but Paolini announced last year that the third book was becoming too lengthy and would have to be split into two. The book reached 700 pages.

"Brisingr" follows "Eragon" and "Eldest" in the Inheritance Cycle series. The previous two books sold 12.5 million copies worldwide. "Eragon" was written when Paolini was 15 years old, but was not published until 2003 when he was 19.

In 2006, Eragon was adapted into a feature film, starring Edward Speleers in the title role of Eragon, as well as Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich, Sienna Guillory, and Rachel Weisz.

Bookstores are gearing up for the midnight release. Borders is planning more than 700 in-store parties scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. on Friday and lasting until the books appear at 12:01 a.m.
