Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford left late in the 4th quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Jets with an apparent shoulder injury.
With 5:19 left in the game and Detroit leading New York 20-10, Stafford tried to scramble, but was tackled and landed hard on his right shoulder. This is the second time this season the second-year quarterback has injured his throwing arm. He first separated the same shoulder in the season opener against the Bears and missed the next 5 games.
Stafford was on quite a roll before leaving the game, making 20 of 36 pass attempts for 240 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was replaced by backup quarterback Drew Stanton, who was not able to sustain the Lions’ lead as the Jets surged back to win in overtime 23-20.
