Charlie Sheen’s Wild Week

After a trashed hotel room, a visit from the cops and hospitalization, the troubled sitcom star files for divorce and returns to work, insisting he’s fine. Time will tell.

The story reads like a cautionary tale for anyone struggling with addiction. In late October 2010, recovering addict Charlie Sheen reportedly trashed a hotel room at the posh Plaza Hotel in New York City while a frightened stripper called the cops from the bathroom where she was hiding from the sitcom star. Meanwhile, Sheen’s ex-wife, Denise Richards, and their two young daughters were in the next room. Law enforcement on the scene had a naked Sheen hospitalized for what a police source called "alcohol abuse and psychological evaluation." He was released later the same day.

In the week following the incident, Sheen insisted the event was overblown while his manager characterized the event as an “adverse negative reaction” to medication. Media sources were skeptical. Sheen then went on to file for divorce from Brooke Mueller, whom he was charged with assaulting in a separate incident on Christmas Day 2009. Then, without skipping a beat, Sheen return to the set of his hit sitcom, Two and a Half Men, which inexplicably saw a serious ratings bump after all the negative publicity.

The week’s events had many speculating that Sheen’s troubles weren’t over, especially if he had relapsed and wasn’t taking steps to get back on track. Other sources close to the 45-year-old Sheen say he is committed to sobriety. News reports also suggest he’s enlisted the help of a “sober coach” to help him in his ongoing battle. As anyone in recovery knows, it’s a lifelong process. Here’s hoping Sheen is doing what it takes to win the battle for good.
