It is believed that more than 40 million Americans suffer from chronic pain every day. It affects every aspect of their lives and personal relationships. But there is hope. A group of physicians have established The Pain Truth campaign are trying to teach the public about non-medication alternatives for pain treatment.
"When the body doesn’t heal itself naturally, pills aren’t the only option to bring relief," said Lora Brown, M.D. Brown is an interventional pain physician and a board member of the Florida Society of Interventional Pain Physicians (FSIPP). The FSIPP is the driving force behind The Pain Truth campaign.
"Technology has brought us many pain management therapies that can alleviate pain and give people back their lives," said Brown.
"Acute pain is not a progressive condition. Not everyone will experience chronic pain," said Deborah Tracy, M.D., the president of the Florida Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. "However, pain does come in varying degrees and patients need to understand that without a proper diagnosis of their condition, pain has the potential of becoming worse and more persistent."
