Obama Plays Basketball With Kevin Durant

Young NBA Star Plays Basketball With President

Kevin Durant wasn't invited to play basketball with the U.S. President in August, when President Barack Obama played basketball with Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony, and Kobe Bryant for soldiers that have been wounded in combat. But the 22-year-old basketball phenom finally got his chance to play some b-ball with Obama about a month later.

According to a Sunday report from The Oklahoman, Durant met with President Obama on September 18th to shoot some hoops. Durant chose not to publicize the event, however, which is why many have not heard about the incident until now.

"It was a good feeling to meet the president," said Durant, last season's scoring leader and a strong contender for the NBA MVP title this year. "Of course I always wanted to do that. Me being from D.C., it was pretty cool to see him. I was excited to get that opportunity. It's something I'm always going to remember."

So how did Durant get to play basketball with one of the most powerful men in the world? According to the report, Durant's agents simply contacted Obama's personal aide Reggie Love and arranged for the 2008 Rookie of the Year to play basketball with Obama.

The event was relatively private in comparison to Obama's meeting with the NBA super stars in August, but Durant did bring a couple of guests with him, including his mother, his grandmother, and his Oklahoma City Thunder teammates Eric Maynor and James Harden.

"She's been in D.C. for 60 years and never got to meet the president," Durant said of his grandmother. "Now we have the first African-American president, and that felt good for me to give her that opportunity."
