Hank Williams, Jr. to be Honored as BMI Icon at Annual Country Awards
Hank Williams, Jr. will be honored as a BMI Icon at the 56th annual BMI Country Awards, according to reports on Friday.
The black-tie Country Awards will take place on November 11 at BMI's Music Row offices in Nashville.
The 56th Annual Country Awards will be hosted by BMI President & CEO Del Bryant and Nashville Writer/Publisher VP Jody Williams. The awards ceremony will recognize the songwriters and publishers of the top BMI country songs played on American radio and television during the previous year.
BMI will also bestow prestigious honors, such as the Country Songwriter of the Year, Country Publisher of the Year and Most Performed Country Song of the Year, also known as the Robert J. Burton Award.
Williams will join past honorees such as Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, the Bee Gees, Isaac Hayes, and James Brown.
Williams Jr. followed in the footsteps of his father Hank Sr., who was a leading pioneer of honky-tonk music. Williams Jr.'s son Hank III is also a successful country singer.
