Former New York City Officer Arrested For Phony 911 Calls

Ex Cop Calls 911 Over 100 Times

A former New York City auxiliary police officer was arrested for making more than 100 phony  911 calls over the last six weeks, New York police said. Rakim Alli, 24, a resident of Jamaica Queens, falsely identified himself as being an active law enforcement office during several of the calls, made from Manhattan and Queens, authorities said.

His calls sent cops racing with lights and siren to the scene of made-up emergencies like shots fired, officers need assistance, and robberies and assaults in progress. Alli worked for four years as an auxiliary officer stationed in the 105th and 103rd precincts in Queens, where he was disciplined numerous times by his superiors for insubordination and other misconduct police said. He quit the force voluntarily in February 2009.

NYPD Investigators relied on witnesses statements, cellular phone records and voice identification to finger Alli as the man behind the rash of bogus calls.

He is charged with 10 counts of reckless endangerment and seven counts of criminal impersonation, police said. He was arrested a couple of blocks from his Jamaica home around 2:12 p.m. Monday November 8th, 2010.
