Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, Pakistan Hit by Bomb Attack, Death Toll Continues to Rise

At least 40 people have died after a bomb attack hit a Marriott Hotel in Pakistan’s capital city of Islamabad, destroying the front section of the hotel and creating a 20-foot deep crater.

It is believed a truck driven by a suicide bomber carried the explosives to the front of the hotel before detonating the massive bomb. Police have estimated the truck contained more than a ton of explosives when it was ignited at a security check near the hotel.

The hotel was engulfed in flames as nearly two-thirds of the 290-room hotel were completely destroyed. Rescue workers have been pulling victims from the hotel and the death toll is expected to rise as the top floors of the hotel remain inaccessible.
