Following a Patrick Pinkney fumble on East Carolina’s opening possession in overtime Andre Brown pounded his way into the end zone from 10-yards out to give the N.C. State Wolfpack (2-2) an upset 30-24 victory over the #15 Pirates (3-1) on Saturday.
Russell Wilson finished the game throwing for 210 yards and three touchdowns for the Wolfpack, including a 5-yard toss to George Bryan with just over a minute left in regulation to overtime while Brown finished with 73 yards on the ground and added another 35 yards receiving and a TD.
East Carolina was up 21-17 in the fourth quarter and were driving late but had to settle for a 21-yard field goal from Ben Hartman to push the score to 24-17 with 4:27 left in the game. T.J. Graham then gave the Wolfpack some hope as he took the ensuing kickoff up to the N.C. State 45-yard-line and Wilson did the rest with a 26-yard pass to Jarvis Williams and a 17-yard toss to Brown before hitting Bryan for the game-tying score.
The loss will likely end the East Carolina Pirates out of any chance to reach a BCS Bowl.
N.C. State will face South Florida next week while East Carolina looks to bounce back against Houston.
