AP Top 25 College Football Scores: #4 Florida Gators Use Defense, Special Teams to Overwhelm Tennessee in SEC Clash

Tim Tebow tossed a pair of touchdowns, Brandon James returned a punt 78 yards for a touchdown and the #4 Florida Gators (3-0) defense forced three turnovers in a 30-6 beating of the Tennessee Volunteers (1-2) on Saturday.

Florida set the tone early as Brandon James gave the Gators great field position with a 52-yard kickoff return that led to an eight-play drive ending with a Tebow to Aaron Hernandez TD toss for a 7-0 lead. The Gators defense then forced a fumble on Tennessee’s first possession and that resulted in a Jonathan Phillips 39-yard field goal.

On Tennessee’s next possession the Volunteers were forced to punt and James took the ball back 78-yards for a TD and the Gators were up 17-0. Following the field goal the Volunteers put together a long drive and were on the Gators one-yard line but Jonathan Crompton fumbled and Florida recovered.

The Gators then moved the ball down the field and settled for a field goal to take a 20-0 lead but Tennessee once again put together a solid drive, marching down to the Florida one-yard-line once again only to have Crompton toss an interception just before the end of the half.

Florida put the game away in the third quarter when Tebow hit Percy Harvin on a 15-yard touchdown pass to boost the advantage to 27-0.

Florida will take on Ole Miss next week while Tennessee tries to bounce back against Auburn
