Lakers Extend Streak to 8-0
Lakers Defeat Timberwolves
On Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Lakers extended their perfect regular season record to 8-0 by defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves 99-94 at home. Surprisingly, however, the Lakers did not play particularly well, at least according to Lakers guard Ron Artest.
"We won but we didn't play well, and that bothers me a little bit,"
Artest said. "If we have a loss and play well, that's a different story.
I guess it still feels better to get a win, even if it's something like
this. We're still a good team, even on a night like this."
But the Lakers were facing a team that has a 1-7 record so far. And, considering that they are the defending NBA Champions, it is not too surprising that the Lakers could pull off a win even on an off night.
Bryant led both teams in scoring with 33 points; he also dished out 2 assists and got 6 rebounds. Bryant's buddy Pau Gasol led the Lakers in rebounding with 10. Artest, who apparently wished that he had played better, led the team in assists and steals, with 4 and 3 respectively.
Kevin Love, who led Minnesota with 23 points and a career-high 24 rebounds, said, "I think this was the best game we've played so far, despite the L at
the end of the night. We got up to play the world champs
and we went down with a fight. We played a lot better than we have
played in the last four or five games."
The Lakers are now only of of two NBA teams that are still undefeated this season, the other team being the New Orleans Hornets (7-0).
