Sponsored by The Dallas Morning News, with research conducted by Workplace Dynamics LLC, the annual survey is designed similarly to the well-known Great Places to Work rankings sponsored by Fortune magazine. The rankings for companies in North Central Texas are primarily based on anonymous employee surveys that cover a wide range of workplace issues, from perceptions about fairness of pay to confidence in company leadership.

“We don't choose the winners; the employees do,” Dallas Morning News Business Editor Dennis Fulton wrote in his announcement of the rankings. “They're asked to look at a series of statements and tell us whether each one applies to their workplace and how important they think it is. Those responses are tabulated to determine the Top 100.”
More than 1,000 companies were nominated, and more than 48,000 employees filled out surveys, up from 33,000 last year, Fulton said.
