Rescuers Continue to Search for Survivors in Marriott Hotel Bombing in Pakistan

Rescue workers continue to search for survivors following the suicide bombing of the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, Pakistan that left at least 53 people dead on Saturday.

More than 260 were injured in the blast that tore through the front of the 290-room building after a truck packed with explosives detonated near a security check point. The death toll is expected to rise as workers have yet to reach some of the worst hit areas of the hotel.

Newly elected President Asif Ali Zardari addressed the country shortly after the attack stating, “This is an epidemic, a cancer in Pakistan which we will root out. We will not be afraid of these cowards.”

There has been no claim of responsibility for the bombing but Pakistan’s interior ministry has blamed Islamic militants for orchestrating the bombing.
