David Megget Sentenced to 30 Years in Jail
Former NFL player convicted in South Carolina
David Megget was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Wednesday. A South Carolina court found him guilty on charges of criminal sexual conduct and burglary. The case stemmed from a 2009 incident involving a college student.
Megget did not testify in the case and is planning to appeal the conviction. The defense's case states that the woman had consensual sex with Megget and began fighting with him at a later date.
Megget played in the NFL from 1989 until 1998 with several different teams. He spent six years in New York with the Giants, one year with the Jets and three years with the New England Patriots. Throughout his career he had over 1,500 yards rushing and 3,000 yards receiving.
Megget has faced criminal charges before. In 1998 he was arrested in Toronto, Canada for assaulting an escort. In 2007 he was convicted of misdemeanor sexual battery and was given two years probation.
