Quote:
Among the 800 likely Missouri voters polled last week, 49 percent favored McCain compared to 45 percent for Obama. The remaining 6 percent were undecided, or split between the three minor-party tickets on the ballot. It was an improvement for McCain in a key battleground state. A similar Research 2000 poll conducted in July showed Obama ahead in Missouri, 48 percent to 43 percent.
McCain's recent lead is within the poll's margin of error of 3.5 percentage points for each number. That means McCain could have a stronger advantage, or Obama could have a narrow edge.
Compared to the July poll, McCain's standing has improved among women and men. But his higher standing among women has generated more political benefit because they make up a majority of Missouri's likely voters.
