NFL Football Scores Week 3: Denver Broncos Start Big, Hold On to Beat New Orleans Saints

Jay Cutler was 21/34 passing for 264 yards and two touchdowns while Brandon Marshall had 155 yards receiving and a TD as the Denver Broncos (3-0) opened up a big lead and then held on to beat the New Orleans Saints (1-2) 34-32 on Sunday

Cutler tossed a pair of TDs in the first quarter, a one-yarder to Nate Jackson and a 35-yarder to Marshall that gave the Broncos a 14-3 lead heading into the second quarter. That lead was boosted to 21-3 in the opening seconds of the second quarter when Nate Webster collected a Reggie Bush fumble and returned it 34 yards for a score.

New Orleans answered with a pair of touchdowns though as Pierre Thomas scored on a 5-yard run and then Bush ran one in from 23 yards out to cut their deficit to 21-17. After a Broncos field goal the Saints recorded a safety.

Michael Pittman boosted the Broncos lead to 31-19 in the third quarter but Drew Brees quickly put the Saints back in the game with a 74-yard bomb to Robert Meacham that set up a 6-yard touchdown toss to Bush.

Denver managed to boost their lead back to 34-26 late in the third quarter on a Matt Prater 34-yard field goal but the Saints found the endzone on a Thomas 10-yard run early in the fourth but their two-point attempt failed, leaving the score at 34-32.

After the Saints recovered a Broncos fumble deep in their own territory Brees drove his team down the field and gave them a chance to take the lead with two minutes left in the game but Martin Gramatica’s 43-yard field goal missed and the Broncos escaped with the win.
