At least 15 people, including up to 11 foreigners from Italy, Germany and Romania, were taken hostage in Egypt’s southern city of Aswan.
Both Italy and Germany have confirmed five nationals from each country are missing. Two Egyptian tour guides a driver and a border guard were also taken hostage.
There have been no claims of responsibility for the kidnappings but Egyptian authorities have pointed to tribesmen or bandits as the likely suspects.
The tourists were believed to be heading to a site in several vehicles when they were seized.
