Monday Night Football Schedule Week 3: Brett Favre Leads New York Jets into San Diego for Battle with the Chargers
Brett Favre and the New York Jets (1-1) have headed west and will face the San Diego Chargers (0-2) on Monday Night Football in a game that could determine the direction for each team for the remainder of the NFL season.
Favre will try to get the Jets back on track after a disappoint home loss to the New England Patriots last week while the Chargers have suffered a pair of devastating losses in the closing seconds of both their games and a third loss could put them in a hole too deep to climb out of.
Philip Rivers has been impressive in the Chargers first two games, totaling six touchdown passes and 594 yards in the air and is tops among NFL quarterbacks with a 122.5 rating. Rivers leads an offense that is ranked fifth among NFL teams, second in the AFC, as they average 386 yards per game.
For the Jets, the offense hasn’t exactly been lighting it up as they rank 25th among NFL teams with an average of 274.5 yards per game and despite acquiring Favre in the offseason New York ranks 30th in passing yards per game and their running game hasn’t been much better, ranking 20th with 108 yards per contest.
The defense of the Jets has stepped up to the challenge of keeping New York in games, allowing just 16.5 points per game and 268.5 yards.
This could be the game where the Jets unleash Favre as the Chargers secondary is suspect, ranking 31st in the NFL in defending the pass.
Monday Night Football will air on ESPN at 8:30 p.m. ET.
