David Blaine Begins “Dive of Death” in NYC, To Hang Upside Down for Three Days Before Big Finish

David Blaine made his name as a master illusionist but more recently the 35-year-old Brooklyn, NY native has turned to endurance tests to amaze his fans and on Monday morning he began his latest test suspending himself six stories above Central Park’s Wollman Rink, upside down and with no safety net.

Blain will remain upside down for 60 hours before the exhibition ends with what is being called the “Dive of Death” scheduled for around 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Doctors have already warned Blaine that he risks serious health issues by hanging upside down for such a long period of time, among the risks being blindness.

Speaking with Good Morning America just moments before he began the stunt Blaine seemed confident in his ability to tackle the challenge saying, “I always liked that idea of being upside down," Blaine said. "So I started experimenting on how long could somebody actually be put upside down. And there was no documentation of it. Nobody really had research on it. I invited doctors to kind of look and watch me as I was doing experiments. And although the dangers are high, I think there's a way to override that.”

Among the other challenges Blaine has subjected himself to are being buried alive, frozen in ice and long spells without food.
